Prince Charles Gives a Friendly Greeting to Queen Letizia of Spain

He’s a future King and she’s a Queen, butPrince CharlesandQueen Letizia of Spaingreeted each other like dear friends.

Queen Letizia received a warm welcome fromPrince Charleson Tuesday at England’s Auckland Castle. AlthoughPrince Charles, 73, became known forgreeting people with “namaste”— a traditional Hindu greeting where the palms are pressed together and accompanied with a slight bow — during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he said hello to Letizia, 49, with a kiss on her hand and cheek.

Queen Letizia was among the royals from around Europe who traveled to London last week to attend the Service of Thanksgiving honoringPrince Philipat Westminster Abbey. She joinedQueen Elizabethand several other members of the royal family inwearing a color with special significance: a dark green hue which was the color ofPrince Philip’s official livery. Known as “Edinburgh Green,” it has been used for staff uniforms and private cars. A green Land Rover was also used to carryPrince Philip’s coffin at his funeral last April.

Other foreign royals to attend the service included King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands with his wife, Queen Maxima, and his mother, Princess Beatrix; Prince Albert of Monaco; King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden; Queen Margrethe of Denmark; Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece; and King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium.
