“ Ashes to Ashes ” fetch Ash back to where it all began at last : the Evil drained cabin in the woods . It was a not - so - seraphic return — as Ash ’s past times come back to frequent him ( literally ) , and some of his worst fears came true .

Ok . No Ruby in this one . But we do get a very significant bit of information : that Kandarian obelisk she ’s been carrying around has a very special nexus to the Necronomicon ; when the two objects are together , the knife “ scorch the binding ’s flesh ” and , presumptively , some serious fireworks happen .
No doubt we ’ll get a front - row seat for some of that action at law in either sequence nine or ten . But this calendar week , just when we call back Ash was going to lone - wolf it at the end , Amanda present up . She ’s been live on Ash ’s trail since he ditched the group at the militia coterie , and though he ’s full of warnings — the only things in life that are certain are death and taxes , but “ I do n’t pay taxes so all I know is death!”—he reluctantly allows her to enter the cabin with him .
of course , it ’s filled with bad memory of that long - ago “ fun weekend”—though Amanda senses the sinister vibes , too , flashing back to her married person being impale on cervid antlers much like the single that decorate the cabin ’s walls . Ready to be done with it all , they make a move toward the cellar to bury the al-Qur’an , but it ’s chained shut , and they ’ll require a wrecking bar … from the tool shed … where Ash chop off Linda ’s head 30 years ago .
While Kelly and Pablo fumble around the Wood , run into some friendly Australian backpacker who ’ll in all likelihood be Deadite fodder soon , Amanda nervously wait in the cabin , keep an optic on the book . Ash heads to the shed , where Linda ’s crank emotional state awaits , along with several self - propelling saw blade and other implements of destruction . While Ash dodges hoary doom , he also support Linda ’s taunt about Amanda , which write out his mysterious fears : “ We all die … everyone you ever have it off ! ”
And Amanda is indeed in deep shit . When the pair walked into the cabin , we caught a glimpse of Ash ’s unbodied hand , which had grown larger and sprouted an orb . Alone in the cabin , she find Professor Knowby ’s notes about the Kandarian dagger before being confronted by a weirdly friendly Ash , who puts the moves on her ( again ) and suggests they just run away and start over . Though she ’s initially charm ( despite Ash being a “ craze , chain saw - handed Deadite killer whale ” ) , she presently notices his rotting hand where he formerly had Pablo ’s robo - paw . “ Maybe I grew another hired hand , ” Evil Ash say . “ Or the paw rise another me ! ”
In the most honestly tragic moment yet on Ash vs Evil Dead , Amanda loses her engagement with Evil Ash , taking a cleaver to the neck ( “ Now that ’s what I call segmentation ! ” ) and , perhaps fittingly , being impaled on antler . Good Ash fit in too later to salve her , and seconds later Pablo and Kelly enter the disturbance and find him resist over Amanda ’s deadened body . “ I did do it , but it was n’t me , ” Ash explains , before racing off after , uh , himself to do fight .
The episode end with both versions of Ash ( who feed on their shared noesis of Ash ’s weakness : “ Ow , my deception knee joint ! ” ) strangling each other , locked in an an apparent combat to the expiry . Ash has always fought an internal battle with himself , being a loath hero who is both secure - time guy rope and Harlan Stone - frigid orca . But now that things have gotten all too literal , Good Ash has generate to win . But how ’s he gon na defeat his most unnerving antagonist ever ? And when the Scheol is Ruby gon na show up ?
