Elizabeth Banks , the talented thespian turned blockbuster director , will farm and probably take a fresh film version of the series for Sony Pictures , according to the Hollywood newsperson .
The show — which follows a group of mysterious and seductive private detectives — run from 1976 to 1981 , first star Farrah Fawcett , Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith ( pictured below ) . McG then directed a film version in 2000 with Cameron Diaz , Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu , which garnered a 2003 sequel ( above ) . Then , in 2011 , ABC bestow the show back with Annie Ilonzeh , Minka Kelly , and Rachael Taylor , but it only hold up a few episodes .
The query on everyone ’s mind is probably , “ Why ? ” But the resolution is simple . Charlie ’s Angels is a recognisable stigma name with a concept ( beautiful , gifted woman quetch ass ) that ’s incredibly malleable and marketable . While it ’s usually play on the kitschy side , you could easily imagine versions that vary in tone from from Naked Gun to James Bond . Goofy and fishy , sly and cool , serious and salient , Charlie ’s Angels can be anything . And audiences still turn out for unspoiled spy movies .
At this decimal point in time though , we do n’t know what Banks and her manufacturer husband , Max Handelman , have project for the enfranchisement , nor when it ’ll pass off . Banks is a very sought - after theater director in the viewing of Pitch Perfect 2 ’s success , and has been rumour alongside several projects , including the continuation to that sequel . If she was to direct that or something else , Charlie ’s Angels would be a few years off . Plus , there ’s not even a credit of a script exist yet .
As someone who considers themselves a fan of the McG photographic film ( yes , even Full Throttle ) on the one mitt , I do feel it ’s a lilliputian soon for a Charlie ’s Angels reboot . On the other hand , they sure are n’t movies you think about too often . Maybe it ’s meter for a whole young generation to meet the Angels .
