There ’s a fairly bewitching clobber . golem architect Davide Faconti was working on a golem for DARPA ’s automatic design challenge , which had to be capable of “ driving a vehicle , open up door , climb ladder , and using prick . ” But after working for a while on a humanoid automaton , Faconti ’s team switched to an emulator automaton called the Silverback — that could walk on all fours , for added stableness .
The robot design includes arm - guard duty , using a leaping - loaded release mechanism , to protect its “ hand ” as it walks . Jason Falconer , one of the designers who worked on Faconti ’s team , has posted some of his renders for the Silverback automaton — which deplorably was n’t selected as a finalist in the DARPA challenge . It ’s pretty interesting to see the feeling of simian , rather than mechanical man , robot .
Check out some of the innovation renders below , and more at the link . [ Plastic pal , Thanks Poly Bug ! ]
