Darius Rucker’s new book ‘Life’s Too Short’; Darius Rucker

Darius Ruckerwill spill his heart onto the page with his new memoir,Life’s Too Short.

The three-time Grammy Award-winning lead singer and rhythm guitarist ofHootie & the Blowfishand country music star will release his new memoir from Dey Street Books, an imprint of William Morrow, this spring.

“If I look back at my life and try to see into my past, everything seems blurry,” Rucker said, in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE. “But then I lean in and start to hear something. Melodies. Chords. Harmonies. Lyrics.”

Rucker’s book will follow his band’s ascent from playing frat houses and sticky-floored dive bars to the success of their Double Diamond-certified album,Cracked Rear View, which launched songs like “Only Wanna Be With You,” “Let Her Cry” and “Hold My Hand” into the minds of a generation.

“This book is the story of my life as told through 23 songs that took me away, soaring, starting at ground level, living in a poor but happy home, never wanting for much more, enjoying what I had, even when times got tough, because I had my escape, my refuge, my music,” Rucker added.

After releasing his first solo album as a country artist in 2008, Rucker has also landed four No. 1 albums on Billboard’s Country chart and 10 No. 1 singles at Country radio. He also works with St. Jude Children’s Hospital, MUSC and the Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation, among others, to raise money for charity.

“I loved revisiting these memories through the lens of music, and I’m excited to share them this May withLife’s Too Short,” Rucker says.

Life’s Too Shortwill come out from Dey Street Books on May 28.
