Today ’s Superman # 3 , by Peter J Tomasi , Patrick Gleason , Jorge Jiminez , and Alejandro Sanchez sees the unexampled Superman — who , if you ’ve been come after along , is the former Superman , and has a kid with Lois named Jon — go toe - to - toe with a new version of the Eradicator . In funnies past , the Eradicator was a former Kryptonian superweapon whose desire to keep up Kryptonian culture was so great , it genetically destabilised Kryptonian colonist who attempted to leave behind the planet in ordering to keep the race unadulterated .
Pleasant stuff . He also later showed up in the Reign of the Supermen electric discharge asone of the four Supermenwho took over afterthe Man of Steel was killed by Doomsday . So he ’s been around !

The new Eradicator , however , is a slight different . First introduced in the anterior issue , this Eradicator has some similar housing — he wants to uphold Krypton ’s legacy , he has a quasi - incompatible / protective relationship with Superman due to the fact that he ’s the last son of Krypton — but he ’s much more interested in Superman ’s son .
When Clark and Lois take the young son to the New 52 Superman ’s Fortress of Solitude to check him over as he starts developing his exponent , they arrive across the Modern version of the Eradicator . It was once one of General Zod ’s android enforcers , but after the devastation of Krypton , it dedicated its existence to detect the last subsister of the satellite and keep the race perfect .
Now that it ’s find Superman , you ’d think the Eradicator would be okay . But , it isn’t — it hates the fact that the last Kryptonian ’s progeny is a crossbreed with a human ( dingy , Lois ) , and in an attempt to correct that error , turns its matter - absorption beam on the young boy , homing to consume his human DNA and leave him strictly Kryptonian .
But it ’s not Jon who expire . In an effort to protect the unseasoned boy , Krypto the Super - Dog — that ’s the New 52 version , not the original — goes into conflict … and is instantly consume by the Eradicator .
Look , take trivial Jonaccidentally heat - visioned his own cat into a burnt crispjust a few issues ago , the small fry ’s get a real problematic meter with pets . But also , this is jolly messed up ! Poor Krypto . A mo too needlessly grim , but then again , I did mention the roasted kitty , did n’t I ? So par for the course of study .
There might be some Leslie Townes Hope for the Super - pooch — and not just in the usual “ oh it ’s mirthful books ” path . sooner on in the number the Eradicator explains that it ’s powerfulness bring in the days before Krypton ’s wipeout as a sort of interdimensional memory board equipment : the life - personnel of a malefactor would be absorbed and stored in the Phantom Zone . So the Eradicator ’s mouth is fundamentally a fancy portal site : Krypto might not be dead , just trap inside the Eradicator ’s alternate dimension .
But even if he is n’t dead , he might not be coming back for a good retentive while , considering an infuriated Jon takes the cad ’s fallen ness for himself at the end of the issue — and it seem like the same cape he ’s wearing in the upcoming Super Sons comic he stars in alongside Damian Wayne . So for now , it looks like it ’s Super - Dog no more .
