They also suffer from Villainous Commercial Break syndrome . There are moments when they move like the wind and effectively take out their goals . But once the moving picture cut away , no matter how much time reach , they never get any closer to accomplishing what they want to do . When the movie fall back to them , they ’re just where they were before .
The light scares them away , and this plays into everyone ’s childhood fear of dark , but swarthiness becomes relative . In some sequence they ’re chased off by a sparse light beam of light in perfect black while in others they hop around a well - lit home , hide out in meagerly phantom . The audience draw adept , retentive looks at them , too . Although the CGI is fine , tiny shadows and hands clawing out from behind warming vent are scary . Gray , smallish howler monkeys are not .

And when that final conflict is over , we know it not because anything was resolved , but because something monumental enough has take place for the movie to end . It ’s not a story anymore . It ’s a waiting biz . Atmosphere and gimmick are n’t enough . For the film to work on , it has to recite a chronicle . This movie does n’t .
