When aspiring knight Gareth go in hunt of a fall comet bruit to contain gold , he is shocked to instead retrieve the dragon Drago ( voiced by Academy - Award ® winner Ben Kingsley ) . After Drago saves Gareth ’s life the two become intricately bonded , and must work together to vote out an evil sorcerer and stop his sovereignty of threat . Two things : 1 ) It does count like a weirdly syndicate - favorable , faux Game of Thrones - type movie . 2 ) If you spot Gareth but ca n’t place him , his name is Julian Morris , who appeared in Pretty Little Liars , Once Upon a Time , and is presently Zooey Deschanel ’s uber - polite boyfriend on New Girl , a fact that cracks me up almost as much as the fact that someone made a 2nd sequel to the 1996 motion-picture show Dragonheart in 2015 .
