Click to viewObviously , the Air is not about speed , and from the poker chip , we can tell its among the slowest mackintosh you may purchase right on now . But we ran some material world bench mark on theMacBook Airagainst an maturate MacBook and MacBook Pro to see how it hold up relatively . Predictably , the MacBook Pro surpass its vis-a-vis in the majority of our psychometric test . But the MacBook Air ( 1.6 GHz Intel , 2 GB RAM ) depart toe - to - toe with the MacBook ( 2 GHz Intel , 1 GB RAM ) in many of our tests , falling just short in most . And it even scoop the MacBook and MacBook Pro in one test . Synthetic bench after the jump for you golem .
We have a go at it the MacBook and MacBook Air traded off on central processor fastness and memory , which is why we also fuddle the MacBook Pro in the admixture . And we know that the MacBook and MacBook Pro are n’t the fastest models available . But the information processing system used , as well as the tests , are ones that will be more applicable to the average Mac user .
We run 4 different tests to quantify the speed deviation between the computers . MP3 encryption , video recording conversion , transferring a .Zip single file from a thumbdrive to computer , and register duplication test on the thumbdrive . No other applications were running during the test and the computer was set up for safe carrying into action .

A few notes on testing …
