Why Are Lunar eclipses red?

Something that often dumbfound people about lunar eclipses is how different they look from the even lunar phases . During the monthly phases , it is the Moon that casts a tail on itself . But in an eclipse , it ’s the phantasma of Earth that spread over the Moon . And our planet ’s dark is not completely black .

Some of the light from the Sun filters through the atmospheric state and make a suffuse red hue into which the Moon move . As the Sun is shadow by the Earth , the inflammation becomes more manifest . The Moon appears reddened for the same reasonthe sky is redat daybreak and at dusk , the atmosphere refract long wavelength of light at a wider slant .
