To end theirthree-day visitto the United States, the Prince and Princess of Wales attended the second annual prize ceremony at the MGM Music Hall on Friday. In keeping with the event’s earth-friendly theme, guests were asked not to purchase new dresses or suits for the evening.

The five winners from across Earthshot’s five categories will each receive $1 million in grants to go toward their project’s goals. The winners, which were announced on Friday night, are: Mukuru Clean Stoves from Kenya; Kheyti from India; Indigenous Women of the Great Barrier Reef from Australia; Notpla from the United Kingdom and 44.01 from Oman.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Daniel Dae Kim said the Earthshot Prize is “much more substantive. It deals with an existential issue that we’re all having as a species, not just an industry. I’m proud that they’ve asked me to be part of it.”

Amfo, who is sharing co-hosting duties with Dae Kim, tells PEOPLE of the couple: “As somebody who’s worked in television for a while, I can confidently say they’re both very good presenters. I know they’re very excited and really galvanized to get everyone interested in this. Of course, we’re celebrating the winners but again it’s about us having an influence and letting people know we call all do better.”

“It means so much to us being here,” Chloe tells PEOPLE. “Me and my sister have been vegan for 11 years. This whole message rings true. We’re so happy to be here and be able to sing.
“We haven’t met the couple yet. But we’re excited to do so. We hope they’re enjoying it over here and happy,” Chloe says, adding that they had been briefed on royal protocol. “We don’t want to say the wrong thing!”

The Prince of Wales refers to the Earthshot Prize Awards — which he created in 2020 — as his attempt to provide some urgent optimism about tackling environmental issues and climate change. He and Princess Kate are “excited to be able to bring that to the United States and inspire people stateside and around the world through the incredible stories we are going to tell,” a source close to the coupletells PEOPLE.
