Regina King, who is up for Best Supporting Actress at this year’s Academy Awards,told the U.K.’sMetrogushed over Chalamet, 23, who was snubbed for his performance inBeautiful Boydespite Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations.

“In terms of my best supporting category, I am a really big fan of Timothée Chalamet,” King, 48, said. “His performances are fantastic. I wish he had been nominated. But I loved Mahershala Ali inGreen Bookand Sam Elliott inA Star Is Born. Their performances really stood out to me.”

She continued, “And for best actress, Olivia Colman. I thought she was just brilliant. As is Glenn Close, though, who she’s competing against.”

King has been earning praise for her performance inIf Beale Street Could Talk, where she plays a fiercely protective mother who does all she can for her struggling and pregnant teenage daughter. The actress already picked up a Golden Globe Award for her performance this year, where she gave an inspiring speech and pledged to produce projects that are “50% women” in the future.

“It just came out in the moment, you know?” King told Metro of making the pledge during her speech. “I did not realize what a wonderful platform theGolden Globesare, because you aren’t just speaking to people in America, you’re speaking to people across the world.”
